Career
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, born on December 9, 1974, is a renowned Pakistani singer, primarily recognized for his contributions to Qawwali, a form of Sufi devotional music. He is one of Pakistan's most celebrated and highest-paid vocalists. Rahat hails from a prestigious musical lineage, being the nephew of the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the son of Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan, and the grandson of Qawwali singer Fateh Ali Khan. Apart from Qawwali, he is also acclaimed for his renditions of ghazals and other light music. Rahat has made significant contributions as a playback singer in both the Hindi cinema and the Pakistani film industry.
Early Life:
Rahat was born into a family deeply immersed in Qawwali and classical music in Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan. His early exposure to music came through his father, Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan, and uncle, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, who began training him in Qawwali singing from the age of seven. Rahat began singing alongside his family members at the young age of three.
Soundtracks and Collaborations:
Rahat contributed to several major soundtracks during his career. In 1995, he worked with his uncle Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan on the Dead Man Walking soundtrack alongside Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. He also collaborated with renowned composer James Horner in 2002 for the soundtrack of The Four Feathers and contributed vocals to the soundtrack of Mel Gibson's Apocalypto in 2006. Additionally, in 2008, Rahat sang "Teri Ore" for the movie Singh Is Kinng, alongside Shreya Ghoshal.
